Students scan their faces in a scanner projecting an inner emotion.  The students then use the image as a reference for creating a piece of art using colored pencils.

The lesson's goal is to work on creating highlights and midtone values using black paper.  Energetic and unique uses of markmaking are encouraged as well as building up layers of color.
